Firstly we extend our best wishes for the New Year to all of our readers.

Looking back 2018 was a busy year for us....

Two Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) networks, Hull and Teesport, were supplied and installed. In each case we worked alongside and assisted the VTMS integrator in delivering the networks. These included several over water paths where space diversity was used to overcome the effects of tidal variations. The installations also needed to take into consideration the coastal environment and ruggedised external equipment was installed.

We now support VTMS networks at five ports.

Our work on MoD air ranges has continued with support and network upgrades. This included the installation of Air to Ground communication and Flight Termination System antennas in a particularly difficult environment. We appear to have gained a reputation of being able to carry out work in both difficult and safety critical environments, which can be challenging at times.

Windfarm work has continued both on and offshore, ranging from microwave radio support to the installation of VHF, UHF and satellite antennas.

Our gained Ceragon IP20 accreditations led us to become involved in a capacity and technology upgrade of Long Haul links in the Channel Islands. This work had to be carried out overnight as it involved outages and a well done for a successful implementation here is extended to the team involved.

The back end of the year saw us involved in installing links for a rural broadband network. This proved to be pretty challenging in a different sort of way as it also involved herding sheep.

The above demonstrates that we are not just microwave radio specialists but have a wide ranging capability. We’ll not be signing up for ‘One man and his dog’ anytime soon though!
