Delivering a complex cabling installation from survey through to testing
During September, RAFT Systems are completing a large-scale cabling installation project, providing a two-person engineering team to carry out the works from the initial site survey through to final cable testing and documentation.
The project has involved the installation of several kilometres of specialist cable across multiple cable runs, requiring careful preparation, cable routing and installation to ensure the completed system was neat, secure and correctly configured.
Site survey and installation planning
The project began with an initial site survey carried out by two RAFT engineers. This allowed the team to assess the installation environment, confirm cable routes and identify the materials and installation requirements before work commenced.
The survey was an important part of the preparation process, helping to ensure that the subsequent installation could be carried out efficiently and with minimal disruption.
Cable installation and termination
The installation involves more than 2,100 cable clamps across multiple cable runs, including both paired and straight cable routes.
RAFT engineers are installing and terminating 147 cables, with each cable individually terminated using N-Type connectors. Particular attention will be given to cable routing, securing and identification throughout the installation.
In total, more than 5.9 km of cable will be supplied for the project, split across multiple drums to support the installation requirements.
Testing and documentation
Testing will form an important part of the project. Every installed cable is to be individually tested following termination, with the results recorded and a test result document produced for each cable.
This provides a clear record of the completed installation and the testing carried out by the RAFT team, supporting the handover of the works and future maintenance requirements.
A coordinated end-to-end service
As well as providing the engineering resource, RAFT Systems coordinated the supply and delivery of the required cable, connectors and installation materials.
From the initial survey and installation planning through to cable installation, termination, testing and documentation, the project was delivered as a coordinated end-to-end engineering service.
